Green Circle was originally conceived in the 1960s as a unique educational experience for very young children. It was to exist, literally, under a solarium type dome and was to foster the most liberal concepts of playschool education.

By the early 1970s the idea of the dome faded but the basic idea had not. It flourished among a small group of families. They envisioned parental involvement, exceptional teaching, and a focus on environmental stewardship and outdoor education.

Today we run two morning programs of two to three days per week.  Class sizes are limited to 16, with one teacher and a teacher’s assistant overseeing the entire program.  The original learn-through- play concept is embraced and we believe the children are the happy benefactors.

our history

The Learn-Through-Play philosophy at Green Circle Preschool emphasizes the use of play as a means for children to learn and develop a variety of important life skills. This approach is based on the belief that children learn best when they are actively engaged in their own learning process and when they are having fun. Each day at Green Circle follows a routine, but the learning and play activities are typically unstructured, allowing children to choose their own activities and explore their interests. These activities may include water and sand play, arts and crafts, math and writing games, puzzles, carpentry, dramatic play, blocks, and toys.

In addition to individual play, group activities such as snack time, gym, stories, and songs allow Green Circle students to work on their socialization skills while playing and interacting with each other. The activities, classroom setup, and toys change every two weeks according to a theme, providing a wide range of learning experiences that are tailored to the individual needs and interests of each child. The Learn-Through-Play philosophy at Green Circle recognizes the essential role of play in children's overall development and the importance of providing a nurturing and supportive environment for learning and growth.

A Few of My Favorites: Color: Purple, Food: Tacos, Drink: Diet Pepsi and Tea, Trip: Hawaii, Season: Summer, Sport: Hockey, Hobby: Skiing

I believe early education is an important foundation for each child, and preschool enriches the lives of children and their families. Preschool gives children an opportunity to socialize and interact with other children, all while developing important social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language skills. My goal is to provide a fun, safe, and caring environment and give students the tools they need to enter kindergarten in a positive and self-confident manner.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, my two daughters Aubrey and Annika, and our puppy, Woody. Our family is huge hockey fans and we love spending our summers at the lake.
I am looking forward to our preschool adventure with your child and your family!

My name is Krista Anderson (Mrs. Anderson) and I started teaching at Green Circle Preschool in 2020. I love Green Circle Preschool and the sense of community it brings. My favorite part of the day is greeting the smiling students every morning and all the exploring, learning and fun we have!
I have my Bachelor of Education Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alberta. I have 15 years experience working with preschool aged children, including teaching at two other parent cooperative preschools, working for a day home agency, and running my own preschool day home.

meet the teachers

Hi, my name is Miss Jennifer. My favourite time of the day is when I meet the children in the morning before preschool starts. I love seeing their smiley faces and how excited they are to start the day!

For hobbies, I like to spend time with family, friends and my two dogs. I also like to read, downhill skiing, and make jewelry.

Most fun vacation? When I was a little girl I would go to Whitefish, Montana, USA with family along with my aunts family during Christmas. We would ski and spend time with each other.

About Parent Co-operative

Green Circle is a parent co-operative preschool; parents and caregivers become the ownership of the organization while their children are enrolled, and are actively involved in the school's operation and management. Historically this has included participating in the planning and implementation of activities, assisting in the classroom during or after hours, and contributing to the decision-making process of the preschool via general meetings or as a volunteer on the preschool's executive committee, although in-class participation has been limited as a result of COVID-19. Green Circle's co-operative model helps to reduce operating costs, ensuring that its high quality programming remains accessible to all.

The co-operative model allows parents and caregivers to be closely involved in their child's early education and to have a say in the way the preschool is run, granting them a direct role in shaping their child's learning experience. Green Circle's structure is designed to foster a sense of community and collaboration among the families and staff involved, providing the opportunity to work together and support one another, with the end goal of creating a supportive and nurturing environment for all participants.
